Background Info on
By Request and MAKENA
As often happens when an artist begins working with a record label after having been on their own for awhile, their existing tracks are “reworked,” that is: added to, enhanced, remixed, and re-mastered to a higher standard of audio quality, often called “radio ready” or “broadcast quality.”
By Request was recorded and produced entirely by us in our living room, with our own hands...literally. It’s a true homemade product. Every copy of it was burned, printed, and assembled by us, by hand, not in a factory, for the simple reason that we didn’t have enough money to pay for that kind of duplication at the time, not to mention the money to pay for professional mixing or mastering of the audio tracks.
Despite that, we’re very proud not only of our hard work and resourcefulness in using what means we did have at the time to forge ahead to create it, but also of the actual quality of our “amateur” job! After all, it eventually landed us a deal with a respected Grammy-winning record producer and label, Daniel Ho of DHC (Best Hawaiian Album, 2005, 2006, and 2007).
In addition to the new MAKENA album being in full-color and “broadcast quality” audio, it also includes quite a few different track selections, notably: more originals. The label Daniel Ho Creations is very encouraging of our original material, as it was founded “with an intent to provide artists with the creative freedom they so deserve and their audiences with high quality recordings, presented with sincerity and artistry.”
From customer reviews on iTunes:
★★★★★ “Good Enough” is my all time favorite song so far! I absolutely love Makena! Siena and Toast have such sweet and soothing melodies. Their blend of mellow acoustic pop and hawaiian music is calming and unique. These gals are the best!
★★★★★ Pooh corner is my personal favorite! I highly recommend thier album to anybody who is looking for inspiration in thier lives. My girlfriend and I LOVE Makena’s music and thier podcast :-)
★★★★★ I first discovered them at a festival in Long Beach; I fell in love with their silky smooth voices. In addition to being great performers, they’re grounded individuals who really care about their craft and are truely appreciative of their fans. I support them and their unique contribution to the music scene.
